Daily driving a 930 – Am I being unrealistic?

I've been considering getting a 930 for a daily – Obviously this is very subjective but are they just too old for daily duties? (My job means lots of driving).

I am in no way expecting a modern driving experience having daily driven a 2.7lt and 3.0lt with a 915 and a 3.2lt with a G50 in the past. Admittedly the air con is questionable and the 915’s were a bit annoying in stop start traffic – But what about the 930’s?

Thoughts? Am I crazy? Am I possibly being a bit blind to the upkeep that comes with the daily use?

No probs. Never broken down. Long first gear. 964 cams. BUTTTTTTTT you'll need a GPS system that tells you where the nearest petrol station is.

I was getting 400, maybe 450km to a tank at best in the 3.2lt. I suspect You would only get this in a 930 on highway driving?

Jnr, is right.

Not the Michael Bolton part, the buy a good one part.

The 930 is as good for daily use as any other 911.

My car is great on fuel, untill you drive it hard.

My honest opinion, and some may be shocked, is no.

I would not by a 930 as a daily driver.

However, if you can get an 89 with the good air con and 5 speed, then yes.

I would not buy anything pre 993 as a daily driver.

But please do buy a 930.

You will love every day you have it.

Just get a good one, and look after it.

Value is going up all the time, or like me you can hot rod the hell out of it.

Get a comfy cheap to run car for daily use and join the party in the 930 on weekends , long trips. and race track.

This is just my opinion.

Good luck :)

Rob, I beg you to take it to Louie and get it running right.

It should not be eating the fuel.

They only do 2000rpm at 100ks.

Please, ya killing me here. :(

Agree with Vas's opinion. The 930 was a supercar of its day and would be unhappy in city traffic, but love the highways, and in summer??. My webered 2.2 doesn't like the city, but purrs along as soon as there is open road.Buy a small car for city commuting (tax deductable) and the 930 for weekend fun! And that RS clone at Shannon's upcoming auction could be an alternative.

Good Luck

I recall losing my shit at a webered 3.0lt many years ago I thought would be hilarious to daily drive in and around the inner city :P

I have a late model Volvo for daily work, it’s just so ugh.. Boring! Everyone is right through, having be there and done that on the non turbo's before I'm just being blind

My daily drive (Renault Clio Sport) was out of action.

I couldn’t wait to jump back in it after driving the 993 for a week.

I will preface the comment with the following:

I have a short commute and half the route is bumper to bumper and I work in the CBD.

healy factory have just purchased an 89,was a daily driver(maybe worth a look)

despite being a super car in their heyday they are very sedate ,when driven as such

they are not a "pig"

unless of course they have been extensively modified

some do have head stud issues

Vas. Will do. What are your thoughts on 16" Fuchs by Euromeister, 16 x 7 and 16 x 9. Brand new $1800?

I only know what I have seen from others.

I am not a fan of these cheap wheels.

Low pressure castings not recomended for any hard work.

Better to spend a bit more on the real deal or get Harry to make you up a set.

Think about the 17s like I now have, good range of tyres.

Saw a set of 7s and 9s for about 3k on PCV site, think they are still on.(gen fuchs)

Thats the best option.

Good value add to the car. :)
