Francois Posted 22November, 2017 Report Share Posted 22November, 2017 Hi All, Long story short, I bought a 997.2 front bumper to update (facelift) the look of my 997.1. The new (fully plastic) bumper needs some repairs - some gluing/welding and some resurfacing as it is a bit "wavy" in some parts. Would anyone recommend a good place in the Melbourne area for such a job? Basically a bumper repair place, someone who would specialise in plastic repair and welding... Thanks for your heads up! brian in buddina Posted 22November, 2017 Report Share Posted 22November, 2017 If your up to doing the repair yourself http://www.henkel-adhesives.com.au/teroson-solutions-7682.htm This is what the auto body place will use. No welding, its an epoxy type stuff for polyurethene & other plastics. Good video on how to do it. Shows how to reinforce your repair. Line up all your small plastic repairs & try to do it in one go. Warning: it goes off quick! Then you just need to paint it.

Actually the work is twofold - there is a bit of welding/gluing involved but also some work in the surface which is not cracked but "wavy". I could probably tackle the first aspect myself with those products, but probably not the second...

So do you generally give them the bumper alone for repair, or give them the car with the bumper bar to be repaired?
vl gra Posted 24November, 2017 Report Share Posted 24November, 2017 Just the bumper bar. They won't take a car. All they work on is plastic b/bars and the other side to their business which is re-doing chrome work.

A few more questions, if I may... - Is he good at resurfacing "wavy" sections? With your experience, how good are the results? - How is he priced, generally? Many many thanks... vl gra Posted 25November, 2017 Report Share Posted 25November, 2017 He shouldn't have any dramas with resurfacing wavy sections. I would be very careful baking the part in a spray oven when painting as it could return back to wavy. Generally his bumper bars are priced as per model and not generally what is required doing to it.
