Alarm and Immobilsers

I was wondering what alarm/Immobilser systems you guys have in your Porsches. I'm particularly interested in pre-1998 cars as that is what I'm hoping I'm buying.

The car I'm looking at has a non working after market unit in it. That will be removed. The factory Immobilser is also not working and I understand the aren't great to start with.

I have used and fitted DEI(Directed electronics Industies) alarms for many years. they have a few brands but my last one was a viper. These are basically the biggest alarm company from the USA and all their stuff is bullet proof and super reliable. They don't have all black wiring(thank god) so the system can be diagnosed if it fault in the future. Australian standard alarms that have all black wiring are the worst idea to ever hit the alarm industry, as if anything goes wrong your only choice is to rip it out and start again. A properly fitted alarm is intergrated into the loom so all black wiring serves no purpose but it does make fault finding impossible. Anyway seek out a specialist installer(not a chain store) and ask for a DEI and you won't go wrong. You can have everything from a basic alarm to one that works with an iPhone, paging etc. Sky is the limit with them these days and only limited by your imagination with what you can do with them.
