Porsche_007 Posted 15January, 2022 Report Share Posted 15January, 2022 I am rebuilding a 964 and need to make a decision on replacing the door sheet metal. Singer leave the original OEM doors on the car and replace all other panels with carbon fibre. The OEM doors are heavy but the door shut noise is irreplaceable. Both Aluminium, and carbon fibre are lighter. Will you lose the door shut noise with these lighter composites?

The 964 RS used Aluminium for the the doors and frunk lid

tomo Posted 15January, 2022 Report Share Posted 15January, 2022 Your car Mate do what you want. Only mentioned the Aluminium if OEM was important to you. But on that note if every thing else is carbon fibre why not ?

I could be wrong but I thought they did this for side impact compliance? tomo

Yep, That the spec :Note: The doors remain in steel to retain side impact resistance as they contain the impact safety beams fitted on later model 911s. Carbon fiber doors can be ordered at additional cost; however, they must be specified in conjunction with a full roll-cage.
