TwoHeadsTas Posted 20September, 2022 Report Share Posted 20September, 2022 OK, mate has a problem with a 996, apparently the ECU may have been wet at some stage in the past. It is part no 996.618.601.04, with other numbers on it being 0 26 204 605. The Boxster we parted out has this identically numbered ECU. Now I find it difficult to believe that the ECU for a 996 would be the same as for a 986, however, is it more the case that the hardware is identical, but the software within is model specific? If so, does anyone know whether the Boxster ECU could be re-flashed with the 996 coding, and if so, who could do it? New plug'n'play ECU from Porsche is apparently $7k......... 911CSR Posted 26September, 2022 Report Share Posted 26September, 2022 Do not take this as gospel, however I spoke to an EU based contact that said it is the same ECU however the programming / ECU files will be different. The example he gave is the same Bosch Motronic untis are used across Opel's to Ferrari's and the only difference is the ECU files. He was not certain if it could be "re-flashed" as some are lcoked down, some need the physical EPROM taken out and reprogrammed etc. TwoHeadsTas
