TINGY Posted 19May, 2013 Report Share Posted 19May, 2013 Is replacing the rear wheel bearings on my '86 944 too much to take on in my garage at home. I have a good selection of tools and whilst I am no mechanic, I have done a lot of mechanical work to my cars over the years. Has anyone done this particular job themselves, do I need any special tool that will make it easier, or do I send it to the shop for the experts to take care of. Willing to have a crack. Feedback appreciated.

Greg944 Posted 19May, 2013 Report Share Posted 19May, 2013 Ditto for Clark's. The bearing tool isn't particularly dear, Arnworkx one is $95 odd and there is a link to a page show how it is used. Greg
Kelly Posted 20May, 2013 Report Share Posted 20May, 2013 You'll probably need a torque multiplier to crack the rear axle nuts.. They are done up to 350ftlbs or so. I did mine a few years ago and broke the 1/2" drive stubby socket extension I was using at the time.
