Early 911 Door Pull Rods

Hi all,

The pull rod on my drivers door has been "customised" at some stage over the years so I ordered a new one for each door as the drivers side has let me down once or twice in the last few months. The new ones I received are part numbers 993-531-091-01 and 993-531-091-02 but look identical to each other and almost the same as what's currently fitted to my car but 20mm longer. The 20mm longer is where the problem is. They are to long for my car. Measuring the "customised" one currently fitted the overall length of the rod is approximately 90mm where as the overall length of the new ones are 110mm at their tightest adjustment. I have spoken to James who has confirmed with Porsche parts that these are the correct pull rods but without cutting 20mm off and rethreading them these will not fit.

Does anyone have easy access to theirs and could measure the length of theirs over all and advise please?

The earlier models have to have had a different length rod going from the install on my car, or I'm just going crazy. I ran out of time to pull the passenger door apart to check it but I'm confident there has to be a different part for the earlier cars, mine being a 1976 911 Carrera 3.0lt.

Cheers

Ben

The ones on mine are adjustable, similar to a throttle bell crank.

In the absence of getting 'the right part', you could modify or customise the new ones to fit by taking a precise measurement and cutting the rod supplied to the right length, retapping the thread so you can re join the two pieces.

Is it possble that your car had central locking installed at some stage? or does now? This may explain the 'customisation' you speak of!

The part 'should' be the same for 74 onwards.

You may even have an earlier door on your car that has been used due to prior crash repair etc...???

Thanks for the reply. Yes if I can't get the ones to fit it is a simple enough job to cut them down and re-tap them. The current "customised" drivers door rod has been cut off, cross threaded and squashed it in a vise to keep it all together but the passenger door one looks factory which I why I have asked the question. Maybe they just did a much better job the second time.

It doesn't now but who knows, it might of at some stage but there are no tell tail signs of it from what I can see now.

Yeah James said they are all the same part from 74 on and all I could find online said the same too.

Anything is possible on these older cars.

Thanks again.

I had a quick look on Sierra Madre and they stock the same part as Pelican, albeit slightly cheaper.

How does the part you have received compare to the part in the passenger door? (when you get a chance to have a look!)

what's up with the thread on the new one? (the right hand side in that pic)

and what's wrong with your old ones? can you combine the two to make something that works?

I think the gold plating (they should be for the price of them) just missed a spot on the thread Russ, I will have a closer look when I head back out to the garage.

The passenger one works fine but the drivers side has been messed with and is to short by 5mm and pulls apart every now and then. I could cut and thread these new ones but for the price Porsche charges for them they should fit without issue.
