Stew F Posted 14March, 2014 Report Share Posted 14March, 2014 Anyone know where I can get a handbrake release button? Last night the button popped off and won't screw back on because the thread is stripped in the plastic. Anyone come up with a fix for this, short of getting a new one? I was thinking I could still the hole out, fill it with epoxy and tap the thred again. what thread is it?
Caledonian Posted 15March, 2014 Report Share Posted 15March, 2014 I was thinking I could still the hole out, fill it with epoxy and tap the thred again. what thread is it? Defiantly metric and probably 4mm but possibly 5mm, I've had a some good results with JB Weld. Or you could put a thread saver (Helicoil) into the button for a more permanent fix. You could try putting some epoxy into the damaged thread/button and push it back on, make sure you clean both the rod and button with alcohol or similar to ensure a good bond, and that should last at least until you get a new button. JB Weld $20 helicoil kit $35-45 new button <$
Stew F Posted 15March, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 15March, 2014 Yeah, for the amount of tooling around, I'll just ring the Porsche Centre on Monday. I have to go past there during the week anyway. Thanks.
