tazzieman Posted 22September, 2014 Report Share Posted 22September, 2014 Well I'll cross post , no dog in this fight - as I have both rear and front engined Porsches in the stable! Now I need to go find me some footage. Today, Sydney Motorsport Park ( Eastern Creek ) Grand Prix Circuit ( GP ) last round for 2014 in the Super Sprint series , fine cool weather & this event is also the BMW Challenge day , so we had two car clubs at the same circuit ( lucky it was the GP circuit ) & what an interesting day 105 cars competing with a whole lot more trying to enter as well ( leading up to the event ) , so we had lots of modified BMW's & Porsche motorcars ( great day ) Very well organised ( not easy with this many entries ) , the Porsche club & BMW club volunteers did a fantastic job Well I think we made history today , meaning there are two main disciplines in the Porsche Club NSW A ) Super Sprint Championship ( Race Track ) B ) MotorKhana Championship ( skid pan event ) or sometimes called autocross If you add the two together , you get the Drivers Championship ( Top of the tree ) , so if you gain enough points in both disciplines you get a crack at wining the drivers championship & there can only be one winner of the Drivers Championship So what history am I talking about ? , well it looks like ( as of today )we have two individuals that drive the same type of Porsche & the same year type as well( plus they are the same colour / tone , meaning black ) & between them they have taken out for 2014 } A ) Drivers Championship Supersprint Championship C ) Motorkhana Championship Sean Buchanan in his 1986 ( Black ) 3.0L twin cam 16V E85 every day drive to work Porsche 951( 944 Turbo ) took out the Motorkhana Championship some weeks ago , and Today has won enough points in todays SuperSprint( Won Class 1 ) to win the Drivers Championship for 2014 Paul Mckinnon in Patrick Garvan's 1986 3.0L 8V E85 951 ( but much more of a track car ) took out Todays Fastest car at the track ( about 3.4 seconds ahead of the 2nd fastest car at the track ( GT3RSR ) & because Paul has done this quite a few times this year , he has won the Supersprint Championship for the year By the way , Sean had just reassembled the engine in Patricks & Pauls 951 ( nice Job ) So for the first time in the history of the Porsche Club NSW we have no rear or mid engined ( for that matter ) Porsche's winning the Three Big Trophies . We have Two different , but road based front engined 1986 Porsche 951's ( 944 Turbo ) that have taken out the complete set of Championships for 2014 This will probably never ever happen again ( clean sweep )for last century front engine'd Porsche's This is the peak of the mountain , we have nothing else to achieve . Congratulations to Sean , Patrick & Paul , between them they have come up with some brilliant engineering ideas ( that even amazed me ) ,fabricated & implemented them , tested & drove brilliantly , I am truly in awe of what I have seen & even more impressed at what Porsche came up with in regards to the 951 & its potential from a last century car , that is not meant to achieve this If someone told me( even three years ago ) that a pair of last century Porsche's from 1986 with No ABS , No Traction Control , No Sequential transmissions with paddle shift ( just a manual gear stick ) & No multi link front & rear suspension( Mc Pherson Strut Front , yes like an old Ford Escort ) & single alloy trailing arms at rear ( like an old 911 ) , and with their 4 cylinder engines could do such a thing , I would not have believed it Whats even more amazing is that both these 951's were just on "R" spec tyres , where as most of the other fastest Porsche's were on Slicks ( which is better ) History in the making Regards Bruce Buchanan Buchanan Automotive
333pg333 Posted 22September, 2014 Report Share Posted 22September, 2014 A little bit of video. New camera so forgive the glare. I discovered when back in the pits that I was running with a rear tyre that had only 11psi hot in there so the car was feeling somewhat unstable to say the least. Hence I didn't push it as hard as later in the day.
