frank964 Posted 25January, 2011 Report Share Posted 25January, 2011 Hi Thrillseekers About a week ago I pressed the trip meter button to reset to 0 Km as I was leaving the Petrol Station, the car was in motion and apparently this is a no-no with older 911's(according to another Pcar forum, car should be stationary). I noticed that the odometer and the trip meter stopped turning over as I was on my way home. I rang the man at 'Ringwood Speedometer' and was quoted $98 for the repair so I removed the Speedo from my trusty steed, dropped it off to the man and it was repaired and ready to pick up the next day (24 Hrs). The shop specialises in VDO instruments. So if anyone has any problems with their dash instruments I can highly recommend this shop Frank

webrest Posted 26January, 2011 Report Share Posted 26January, 2011 Would agree with Frank & Trev have used them for more than twenty years. Even if they weren't any good they are primarily the only game in town these days. Not that interested in electronics though wont touch cruise controls at all. frank964 Posted 12February, 2011 Author Report Share Posted 12February, 2011 Hi Gaza The speedometer gauge can be removed fairly easily with some patience. The rubber grommet that surrounds the gauge itself is what holds it in place. The gauge basically slides then press fits into the dashboard. To remove the gauge you need to gently prise out the gauge by levering under the outer rim with a flat screw driver, you may even be able to get your finger tips around the rim or try to push the gauge out from behind by putting your hand up under the dash itself. Be careful not to leave an indent in the face of the dashboard from prising with the screwdriver, dont slip with the screw driver or you will score the rim. If you find you need to prise heavily with the screwdriver then pad the shaft of the screwdriver with a soft folded rag. Once the gauge is out of the dash you can simply unplug it. Hope this helps Frank

Stepo Posted 12October, 2011 Report Share Posted 12October, 2011 Another rap for the Speedometer Shop in Ringwood, VIC. VDO clock stops working overnight in winter due to the cold, worked fine during the day. Replaced capacitors, general clean-up and picked up two days later, $82.50. Very professional job given they have to undo the rolled seal edge and reseal. Thanks for the original tip Frank
