Autofokus Posted 28January, 2011 Report Share Posted 28January, 2011 Hi all, I joined last last year and have been reading all I can about the car I have wanted for as long as I can remember. Finally I have some time and money to outlay and have decided I would like to find a 87-89 3.2 Carrera. I have had a look at a few and love them. So if anyone has a spare one lying around, I would be happy to take it off your hands. I would prefer a Coupe but will look at Targa's too, not a big fan of the Cabriolets. It will be a weekend car onloy used for club runs and track days. Thanks for reading, any feedback would be great Cheers Rob
Spence Posted 30January, 2011 Report Share Posted 30January, 2011 Hey Rob, Best advice I can give is be patient, have the money ready to go and pounce when you find the right car. It took me a long time to find one, I missed out on a few good ones along the way umming and ahhing, also came across a lot of dog boxes. If a car has been for sale for a while there's usually a good reason, these cars are getting rarer and rarer and good examples don't hang around long. I've had mine for 5 years now and would never let it go, I still find myself staring at it for long periods of time and I love driving it. Anyway good luck, check all the car sites and Porsche club market places as often as you can, wont hurt to give a few dealers in your area your details too. D-banger Posted 30January, 2011 Report Share Posted 30January, 2011 Hi Rob, 3.2 Carrera...great choice I have had mine for 18 months and have never looked back. Like you intend, I use mine for club runs and the odd track day. My only minor complaint was I thought the air con might be a bit better for a late 80's car. If you are not mechanically inclined, then I reckon it's a good idea to get any car checked out by a Porsche specialist before handing over the cash. Good hunting, Doug

I am sure you will not enjoy it. It will cause you nothing but trouble; and with luck that may leave one or two good ones on the market, so I can buy one !! Good luck with the hunt, and look forward to seeing what you find. cheers Peter

I'm looking in all states, cause you never know. It's been an interesting process, I thought I had a beautiful Slate Grey 88 model in South Australia for $25K, however it turned out to be scam...long story short, Police got involved and thankfully I will get my deposit back. Obviously the price was too good to be true for a UK import. I had a look at a cheap tired 88 Silver Targa in Sydney with 80K on the clock, turns out its a HK Import so will stay away from that. There is a nice Black one at a dealer in Melbourne, but no Aircon from what I can see, Its a UK Import but looks in good shape for 49K. There was a nice Slate Grey 88 for 45K in Geelong, but thats now gone. I have my eye on Late model Targa for 47K. Its pricey but hopefully nothing to spend. Anyway good luck, will keep you posted. Cheers Rob Hi Rob, So true about whats out there.there a lots of vehicles but its finding the good ones amongst them. I have looked at a few in Sydney and Melbourne but as you say you them discover they have no air, or bigger bolsters on seats, which both yell U.K, and possible corrosion.....but I know it will be worth it when it pops up.
