ANF Posted 24May, 2016 Report Share Posted 24May, 2016 Spotted this on a FB page (https://www.facebook.com/flussigmagazine/?fref=nf), it is a prototype of a 944, but with AWD and a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder in the back!! Seems Porsche were unwilling to change?Anyone know more about it? On show at the Porsche museum.
KBGr4 Posted 24May, 2016 Report Share Posted 24May, 2016 Surely it would be easier to simply (if thats possible !) transplant the Audi 4wd driveline, interesting project for a track car ?
ANF Posted 24May, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 24May, 2016 As a direct modification now, probably not as the Audi would have the gearbox at the front and mess too much with the balance and floor...Back in the day of the prototype. probably same considerations..... too much front weight...Interesting that they went down this path, I wonder what the outside looked like?? a239947 Posted 26May, 2016 Report Share Posted 26May, 2016 As i understand it, the outside looked identical.Someone who posted this on facebook noted that the front looks like an audi crossmember and diff system. The engine was also a new experimental lie flat inline 4 cylinder from VW. I dont think the balance would have been that great. The 944 was already slighty weighted to the rear so this would have been 911 like weight distribution.apparently it was cancelled to direct money to the gruppe B project. Or 959 as we know it now.
