Apogee Posted 5December, 2016 Report Share Posted 5December, 2016 Not only did they make cars and tractors, Porsche also designed tanks.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VK_4501_(P)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leopard_1

tazzieman Posted 6December, 2016 Report Share Posted 6December, 2016 You realise they had V12 Maybach engines , not designed by Porsche? They needed a bulletproof engine .
tazzieman Posted 6December, 2016 Report Share Posted 6December, 2016 They weren't that great a tank, neither was the PanzerMyth: The King Tiger could not be penetrated by any tank gun.Fact: The Tiger II was penetrated many times by various weapons in trials. Even the meek 85 mm gun on the T-34-85 was capable of dealing a fatal blow to it at 300 meters.Ironically, the only weapon in Soviet tests that was consistently incapable of penetrating the front of the Tiger II was the Panther’s gun,
911sies Posted 6December, 2016 Report Share Posted 6December, 2016 You realise they had V12 Maybach engines , not designed by Porsche? They needed a bulletproof engine .Yes,I realise a whole lot more than is probably healthy about WW2 and it's tanks and planes. The Russian's did indeed have the measure of the Tiger's they met. As usual with the Ruskies, it was sheer weight of numbers that could knock out the Tiger. Just a case of how many of theirs they had to lose to get close enough to do it. 300 meter combat happened of course, but not so much on the Russian Steppes. That T34 85mm gun they quoted was not meek either (Tiger itself was 88mm) but it did have to close to 1,000m to damage a Tiger...well within the envelope for it to get killed itself.
