Cleaning 915 mag case

Curious whether anyone has had an effective way of cleaning the exterior of the mag case 915. Read up on PP that a few people have had luck using pressure washers but also a little risky with seals etc.

 

Anyone have a good product they have used? I assume engine degreaser isnt the best thing to use

have seen people use bbq cleaner or oven cleaner. but not 100% sure if it was on a mag case.

I used degreaser and a karcher. Came up really good.

 

Just avoid the seal areas. Scrub them instead.

 

It is messy, so be prepared.

Yeah i heard about that but people also said that due to over cleaner being caustic that it damages metal? No idea if it's true..

If you're going to use oven cleaner, it is essential that you are able to remove EVERY drop.  If it gets retained under bolt heads, or in crevices, it will continue to eat away the Al or Mg underneath until you have a nasty situation.  I wouldn't use it, even on a fully torn-down case.  Trust me, I'm a (retired) analytical chemist...

Yes just your normal everyday engine degreaser from supercheap. I ended up using 4 or 5 cans all up.
