Fun day at the track for 951's

Recommended Posts

Today , Eastern Creek ( Sydney Motorsport Part ) South Circuit , nice weather , and good track conditions , big turn out ( sold out + ) 64 cars competing in round 2 of the PCNSW Supersrpint for 2017 .
Good range of this and last century Porsche's competing , but in regards to this century Porsche's there is a noticeable increase in  Cayman GT4's competing which makes sense because if you were to compete at the track with a "NEW" Porsche , the Cayman GT4 is a standout , much better balance than the "this century" rear engined anything & much more forgiving and a lot cheaper than a GT3 , its a bit like a this century 944 / 951 / 968 in that regard

Well today , the last century Porsche 951 ( 944 Turbo ) did very well , below is the top 10 best times in regards to Porsche's competing with road legal "R" spec tyres , meaning the cars that you and I could drive to work the next day ( As Sean does )

997 GT3          Class 2      1.00 :9440
996 GT3          Class 2      1.01 :8670
951                  Class 1      1.01 :8880 ( Sean Buchanan  1986 951 3.0L 16v )
Cayman GT4   Class 2      1.01 :9680
911RSR Rep   Class 2      1.02 :2840
951                  Class 1      1.02 :3510  ( Mark Bloxham 1986 951 3.0L  8v )
996 GT3          Class 2      1.02 :3680
997 GT3          Class 2      1.02 :5080
991 GT3 RS    Class 1      1.02 :9340
981 CaymanS Class 4P    1.03 :0150

Sean Buchanan ( 951 3.0 16v ) was just a fraction off his PB but still won class 1 & Mark Bloxham ( 951 3.0 8v ) came in 2nd in class 1  & we had another customer Chris Moriarty in his 1991 2.5 951 ( his first time at the South Circuit ) and he did a 1.04:4 , even with no LSD( the standard one is worn out ) & tall standard gearing .

No accidents for the day ( thank goodness ) but a few spins from a few eager competitors ( quite normal ) but no real damage  , so all in all a great day had by all

Many Thanks to the volunteers who came along to help out

Regards

Bruce Buchanan
