withers Posted 24July, 2012 Report Share Posted 24July, 2012 I'm keeping my options open when it comes to buying a P. I'm thinking going older and with an engine that is easier to rebuild. A car with less electrics and just overall easier maintenance So with that in mind, I've been looking around at older 911s. I'm purely educating myself now.. not looking to buy yet. But I'd like your thoughts on the green machine in the link below. http://www.carsales.....5&sort=default Says it has very low km... do you even trust that with a car of this age? I prefer clean lines, so those whaletail things... not for me! EDIT - but then again look at this http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/porsche-911-carrera-1987-11487462?base=1216&vertical=Car&cr=8&eapi=2&__N=1216+1246+1247+1252+1282+4294963765+4294963638&num=15&silo=Stock&Range=Price:Min,35000~0.5&sort=default love! J.J. Posted 25July, 2012 Report Share Posted 25July, 2012 nice 3.2 but should be cheaper as its an import, worth a look
withers Posted 25July, 2012 Author Report Share Posted 25July, 2012 Yes it looks nice on the outside. I'm looking for a good book on the history of the 911 models, so I can start to differentiate models and understand what I should be looking for re finding a nice original car. I'd prefer something that wasn't too modified or made to look like a wide body, flared guards etc
Hezath Posted 28July, 2012 Report Share Posted 28July, 2012 Love the colour combo on that 3.2! I'm new to Porsches and I just read this book my mate leant me, goes through a lot of the development of the models, I stopped reading when it got to the 996 haha but it was a decent introduction I think. Worthwhile read http://www.faxonauto...911-P25618.aspx
D-banger Posted 29July, 2012 Report Share Posted 29July, 2012 For me a good starting point was to be found in old copies (at least 2 or 3 years old) issues of Total 911. At the back of the magazine they listed all the 911 models and variants from 901 to 997 with some stats and summary of mods over the old model or mods of that particular variant. As per Hezath, I tend to lose interest after the 993, except maybe for the 996 GT3 Mark 1.
