Watkinwombat Posted 4December, 2017 Report Share Posted 4December, 2017 Hi All, I'm new to the forum and am seeking some advice on what I should watch out for when considering the purchase of a early to mid 80's 928. Why a 928....various reasons, I like older classics and to me the 928 ticks my boxes and my budget doesn't stretch to an old 911....buy the way my budget is up to $40K. Not to mention a nice red one would make a sort of pigeon par with my red 73 240Z! I've been looking for perhaps 12months but more seriously now and the New Year but have no experience with the 928 so would appreciate some advise on what to look out for when reviewing a car e.g. body, interior, mechanical....issues with imported vehicles from Hong Kong?? Many thanks ?
ANF Posted 4December, 2017 Report Share Posted 4December, 2017 Welcome and great choice! Seems to be a few new ones lately who have seen the light Find a good one and you will love it! I am starting to think we need to put together some sort of 928 guide..... I assume you are referring to the purple one?
tazzieman Posted 4December, 2017 Report Share Posted 4December, 2017 https://www.928.org.uk/buyers-guide.html Buy the best you can afford . These are old cars now and unless cossetted (and even if) , they require love & care. Just a bit more than an old Holden. Happy searching!

But yes buy the best that you can afford and if you cannot afford much then be prepared to spend a bit.... https://rennlist.com/how-tos/a/porsche-928-buyers-guide-376725 https://rennlist.com/porsche-928-faq/928-pre-purchase-inspection/ Ignore O.S. prices. These cars need to be used and hate sitting around. Deferred or catch-up maintenance can and will cost a lot!
KGB Posted 5December, 2017 Report Share Posted 5December, 2017 1. Buy the best you can afford, and stretch. 2. Contingency fund. $1000's not $100's Rennlist is a great resource.

In the past month I've now read two adverts saying the car came from HK?! 13 hours ago, tazzieman said: https://www.928.org.uk/buyers-guide.html Buy the best you can afford .
