Steve88 Posted 12January, 2021 Report Share Posted 12January, 2021 Wondering if anyone in Victoria has any knowledge first hand on the requirements and legal obligations involved in removing factory seats and replacing with another brand. My questions are mainly around : Are there any insurance technicalities ? Aside from declaring the cars seats will be changed ? VASS Certification . Is this required? Australian Standards & Compliance ? Anything to note with either ? Seats I'm looking at are BF Torino Seats / GTS Classics. Going into a G- Series Any first hand knowledge or input from people running these seats would be appreciated Steve
9fan Posted 13January, 2021 Report Share Posted 13January, 2021 You should be able to get a quick answer from a local Hot Rod shop, they would do this all the time.

Seats need to be ADR approved (or whatever the relevant stand is) If you put fixed back seats in a coupe you need to engineer cert. the car as a 2 seater because the rear seat egress is compromised. Insurance is a tricky one too. Ins. companies will accept the modification but it's up to you to ensure it's legal. Insurance claims can be denied if any thing fitted to the car is not legal. the Vicroads info is deliberately vague https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/registration/vehicle-modifications-and-defects/vehicle-modifications/removing-adding-and-replacing-seats
