TheBaywatchKid Posted 13April, 2021 Report Share Posted 13April, 2021 My 82 SC Targa has been a dream since I bought it nearly a year ago. It's my one, and only car. My only worry is that a lot of time, given I live close to most of things I drive to, most of my journeys are 10 mins or less. I want to stretch out the engine, but my oil hasn't even heated up by the time I get to my destination. I do get it out for longer runs every few weekends, where I will stretch the engine when the oil heats up to running temp. Is it something I should be worried about having the car at low revs and cold for most of its running life? It's done 106k miles, and has had a top-end rebuild. Cheers, James
tomo Posted 13April, 2021 Report Share Posted 13April, 2021 If worried drive it in a lower gear and keep your revs up, Plus engine temp, Might use a bit more gas. TheBaywatchKid
firstone Posted 13April, 2021 Report Share Posted 13April, 2021 I do a 7 min trip in mine twice a week to Cafe. I warm it up to full temp b4 I leave, water that is. Then run it at around 4k in 3rd. Then take the long way home. tomo and TheBaywatchKid
Coastr Posted 13April, 2021 Report Share Posted 13April, 2021 There is no way around the fact that heat cycles and cold starts cause wear more than operating hours alone. But you enjoy it so just be sensible while it’s cold. It would be wearing out any car so it’s not avoidable TheBaywatchKid
