Coolant Question - Cayenne 955 Turbo

Hey guys,

I'm about to take on a rather difficult job on my 2004 Cayenne Turbo. The plastic coolant pipes have already been replaced with aluminium ones, however the two plastic T pieces sitting behind the right hand side of the engine are leaking. Some of the other bits under the manifold probably also need a refresh so a good chance to do that.

Anyway, my question is what coolant should I be using to fill it back up? The car looks to have the genuine pink/orange stuff from Porsche or VW in it at the moment. Looking around at different automotive retailers in Australia, I can't find anyone who sells an exact equivalent that's pink. However Penrite do have red coolant that they claim has OEM approval of VW, Audi and Porsche. Knowing that getting all the old stuff out is next to impossible, I'm still a touch concerned about mixing these two and whether or not the Penrite stuff is actually approved like they claim.

Any advice appreciated.

 I'd be asking the Porsche dealers or any other Porsche specialist about that mate.

 The only thing I was told after doing a full cooling system refurb by a reputable repairer on my Hiace van recently, is that its not advisable to mix coolants. I'm sure the Penrite coolant will be fine though

I arranged for my old boss's 05 to be fixed after the plastic coolant pipes cracked.  Shit of a job, pretty sure the Penrite Red was used for the refill.  I was horrified to see the boss had a container of the green stuff in the back of the car that he'd been topping up with.  He was very lucky he didn't have a congealed mess, so the job ended up a little easier than it could have been.  I told him he should buy a Tatts ticket as he certainly got out of jail there........

Definitely lucky there!

The job I'm about to do is even more of a shit job, but I think it'll still be doable with some time and patience.

Since the Penrite red has approval I think it should be fine to mix. Fully draining the coolant from these cars would be quite the task so not keen to go there. Having had a look at the Penrite stuff more closely it is actually quite similar in colour (sort of a pinky orange). The Si-OAT formula is the same as the coolant that all the guys in the US seem to use for these cars (Zerex G40 Pink by valvoline) so that's also promising.

Got this job done over the weekend, took me pretty much all of Friday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday. Wasn't easy but got there in the end. Access and visibility and awful so you need a borescope and some special extendable hose clamp pliers. 

Anyway, in regards to coolant, the Penrite red coolant looks almost identical to the Genuine Porsche stuff. When it's in the car it looks like a murky orange colour, in the bottle it's red and when you pour it out it looks pink.
