We have a mutual friend who lives in Italy (Ozzie expat) who is also a Porsche owner ('84 928S)!! We plan to go halves in an early Boxter which will be left at our friends and will be used when we separately visit. Based on a very rough search of eBay UK, we figure £5000 will get us a decent one, not great, but reliable.. A quick search of car rentals shows that approx 2 months rental hire would see us break even ( yes, there is rego, insurance etc to consider). Parents bought a Merc in Germany years ago and left it behind after a couple of months of driving. It was more viable than hiring a car for the period.
