550Spyder Posted 12May, 2014 Report Share Posted 12May, 2014 Team Looking at acquiring a 3.2 carrera engine running high compression pistons and twin plug head. New motor with 5000 km. Leak down test perfect at 2-3%. Compression above 200 in all cyclinders. But one cylinder bank is 10% higher compression than the other. Cam timing checked and ok. Going to re-perform the test tomorrow from dead cold and from the bottom plug holes (in case one bank not torqued up propperly). How worried should I be if one bank is so different from the other? Pauly Posted 12May, 2014 Report Share Posted 12May, 2014 might be oil or something in it. When was it tested, hot or cold? Need to do compression while throttle is open and while engine is hot.
550Spyder Posted 12May, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 12May, 2014 Done hot I believe.
Uncle Posted 12May, 2014 Report Share Posted 12May, 2014 All the plugs out at the same time?
550Spyder Posted 12May, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 12May, 2014 Not sure uncle. But was performed by a recognised Porsche specialist so I am confident they know how to perform the test. Just don't understand the results.
Uncle Posted 13May, 2014 Report Share Posted 13May, 2014 Yeah it's a rooky mistake but I've seen it happen before.
