Paul Carrera Posted 7June, 2014 Report Share Posted 7June, 2014 Am just about to do a clutch job and have got the power clutch kit sitting at home which has more clamping force and the pressure plate is alloy and I am now thinking of replacing the flywheel with the lightweight type. Just wondering what the pro's and cons are of doing this, I would expect it would rev a bit easier and be more responsive but are there any negatives. Would this require changing anything with the ECU Is it worth the $1000
clutch-monkey Posted 7June, 2014 Report Share Posted 7June, 2014 there are no cons imo, but if you go too light you will have to blip the throttle on downshifts to prevent a stall. easily fixed with a $150 chip
Paul Carrera Posted 7June, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 7June, 2014 looking at using a Aasco which weights 8.2 lb's that's the only one I have found
clutch-monkey Posted 7June, 2014 Report Share Posted 7June, 2014 that's quite light.. are you doing it yourself? give T&D auto or DHM auto a call, see what they recommend.
Merv Posted 16June, 2014 Report Share Posted 16June, 2014 I did this earlier this year on my 68. It was much lighter and spun up faster. Some loss of torque but in the end I had to remove it. Seems that the guy who made the lightened flywheel made it about 1.5 mm too wide and it eventually rubbed on the bell housing. The manufacturer gave a full refund and sent a new OEM FW in compensation!
