firstone Posted 16June, 2014 Report Share Posted 16June, 2014 Dealer says $345 for the remote head alone + $192 to program. Ouch... Anyone had success with after market remote heads? Other countries run a different frequency apparently so I would have to know which supplier has our frequency.
JustJames Posted 17June, 2014 Report Share Posted 17June, 2014 The key needs to be coded to your car which requires either the dealer, or a visit to an independent that has a good relationship with a dealer.
Orion03 Posted 17June, 2014 Report Share Posted 17June, 2014 Just straight off google, but won't people like this be able to reprogram a transponder chip to match? http://www.ramsec.com.au/mechanical/automotive.htm what is wrong with your key? lost it? firstone Posted 17June, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 17June, 2014 I only have one remote key and the open close switch is coming apart. I'm off to a tech to see if he can replace that switch. Only the dealer can program it to the car. Even the locksmith said beware of ebay remotes, they could be wrong frequency. He has heard it many times. He thinks his tech should be able to put a switch it if he can get the same one. Thank you for the link. Unfortunately they can't help.
Orion03 Posted 17June, 2014 Report Share Posted 17June, 2014 so your PCB and transponder is okay? then you can buy the key shells from ebay and remove your original PCB and Transponder and rehouse them in the new case http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/190994700913?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Which I am planning to do with my crap 997 key
firstone Posted 17June, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 17June, 2014 I will be buying a new case. My transponder is fine. My Pcb as you say is ok, however the switch on the circuit board that activates the lock for the doors is coming apart. Someone has been heavy handed. I have repaired it for now. firstone Posted 19June, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 19June, 2014 Had an interesting thought last night. I had intended to buy an 04 last week but it was stolen. He still had his keys and I thought I should be able to use the head of it and have it programmed to my car. Since the dealer said he had one in stock all the time, I imagine this to be possible. So I called ol mate, and the insurance company took them and is investigating him (and apparently me as well). Too bad, would have been a cheap option. Orion03 Posted 26June, 2014 Report Share Posted 26June, 2014 Be warned its fiddly getting the contacts out to be swapped into new housing, and the transponder is also a pain. But I am happy with new key housing, so much nicer then old one.
firstone Posted 26June, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 26June, 2014 Ok ta. Mine looks all blyuk, not Porsche at all. You said 'melted out' the transponder. Soldering iron?
Orion03 Posted 26June, 2014 Report Share Posted 26June, 2014 Yup soldering iron to melt the plastic around the chip. The new key feels so much better when you turn it to start the car. Placebo I am sure
Steiny Posted 26June, 2014 Report Share Posted 26June, 2014 Or use some rubbing alcohol\goop off to dissolve the glue then an exacto knife to dislodge the transponder
Orion03 Posted 26June, 2014 Report Share Posted 26June, 2014 It was supposed to be epoxied in place.... But having done it it doesn't feel like epoxy so yeah should have tried that first.
