dragon02 Posted 11February, 2015 Report Share Posted 11February, 2015 The leather on my steering wheel is beginning to tear in some small areas and I would love some suggestions on how best to repair it before it gets worst. Cheers.
911sies Posted 11February, 2015 Report Share Posted 11February, 2015 Other than getting a trimming specialist to recover it, I don't think there's much you can do to repair it. Depends how bad it is. I use Swissvax leather cleaner and their leather conditioner (primarily for seats but works on all leather). Not the cheapest stuff, but it works well. It's more a band-aid than a repair, but it will stop the leather getting worse and protect the parts that haven't torn. 9er is selling a recovering kit in the For Sale section. Maybe find out if it suits your style wheel?
ByronBayChris Posted 11February, 2015 Report Share Posted 11February, 2015 Mine was cracking, so got it recovered here at Lee Brothers in Qld. Gary Blackman in Vic can do it. Expect to pay $400 or so
andrew911 Posted 11February, 2015 Report Share Posted 11February, 2015 once the leather is ripped or cracked nothing much can be done to repair in a way of leather treatment, best recover and have a nice wheel for a long time. I had the same problem on my '86 911 and had the wheel recovered recently.
Ozvino Posted 12February, 2015 Report Share Posted 12February, 2015 Gary Blackman re-stitched the wheel in my 928 - fantastic job, better than new and the quality was second to none. $350 about 3 years ago Dave
PeterVER#4 Posted 12May, 2015 Report Share Posted 12May, 2015 How did you go with the repair? it wouldn't happen to be a carbon 4 spoke wheel by any chance, Im looking for one and have a nice 3 spoke wheel to swap...
