996 VIN and Engine numbers

This maybe a silly question but should the last series of digits in the VIN match the engine number? Should i be worried if they don't in a 2001 model?

Are you using the correct year and region for the VIN? US and different years have different VIN details.

My understanding is they don't...or if they did it would be a tattslotto like coincidence.

What is important is that it is the original engine number that belonged to that chassis number from new.

This could be verified by the delivery books or by Porsche Melbourne.
