pommie Posted 27March, 2016 Report Share Posted 27March, 2016 Hi all, I've been fortunate enough to purchase a 986 Boxster S (2004).My only gripe is that i can stream from my iPod.My car has the Bose speaker upgrade, the Harman Amp (Option 490) , CDR 23 Radio and the MOST fiber optic cabling. From all my research ive concluded my options are:-1. Get and FM modulator with bluetooth - Cheap but poor quality audio2. Purchase a Dension Gateway 500 BT which will act as a CD Changer - $900 but limited to the text display of the Radio (and existing speaker quality)3. Replace everything with a new DD head unit, Amp and speakers - $$$ but get better quality everything My question is how much would i be looking at to obtain a complete audio package installed? I wouldn't want to pay more than 2K Can anyone recommend a car audio specialist that offers installed package for Boxsters? Cheers

pommie Posted 30March, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 30March, 2016 Wow 4K is more than i budgeted for. I guess ill keep my eyes open for a 2nd hand PCM 2.0 unit and couple that with a Dension.Im in Sydney
poli84 Posted 30March, 2016 Report Share Posted 30March, 2016 Have you considered the Parrot kits?I have run Parrot BT kits in two previous Audi's and I run a Parrot MKi9000 in my 964 and am very happy with the product.Their new Android systems look great. (They run Android operating system, doesn't mean you can't use an iPhone.) Check them out.
smit2100 Posted 31March, 2016 Report Share Posted 31March, 2016 I am in a similar predicament and procrasting what to doAny reason you have dismissed1) A mobridge instead of the Denison2) Becker unit auxiliary mod. Haven't further pursued it yet, eg cost etc, but in order to keep the car stock and going through the hassle of sourcing a second hand PCM2.0 and getting it installed and recoded ???etc and then still needing a Denison, perhaps a simpler solution appears to be that we could get an auxiliary jack installed in the CDR 23 unit and then low tech chreaper options open up, for ipod, / Bluetooth connectivitiy . Refer to http://beckerautosound.com/porsche-pcm-cdr2324-aux/2865219. Would this be simplistic solution that could work eg cheaper to buy a second hand cdr 23 unit in the US with security code (instead of shipping your own unit) get it sent to becker, have them do the mod and ship back to you for a straight swap out then go low tech auxiliary cable connection solution? I dont have an issue with the Dension other than the controlling interface with the CDR23 would be limited.I assume the Mobridge would have similar limitations?Getting a hardwire mod on a 2nd hand modded becker might be the way to go, although i would prefer to use bluetooth so i dont have to run wires change fittings etc.Let me know what you decide.Cheers

pommie Posted 31March, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 31March, 2016 OK thanks. Was reading up on the Mobridge and i think i miss-understood its functionality?According to their web page is simply converts Digital to Analogue signals allowing you to add a better amp and speakers but retain the existing head unit. Is this correct?
Mike D'Silva Posted 1April, 2016 Report Share Posted 1April, 2016 if you want cheap, check this out...http://isimple.com/catalog/install/ISFM2351My local Northfield suggested it cos I am a cheap bastard. It is hardwired to your headunit, but you have to tune to a certain radio station to activate it...Took me a while to understand, but it is not transmitted via fm, but just that you have to allocated a certain number in your radio, to access the unit.Your phone connects to the unit via bluetooth. You download the appropriate APP from android or iphone... they install a microphone for phone calls. It works brilliantly. I have one on my Boxster S... I use spotify for music. The names of the tracks scroll acrosss the head unit and also across my dash display, where the radio station would normally display.Only downside is, if you want to listen to radio, then you have to hold the remote button down for 5 seconds to turn the unit off.
