SteveC Posted 7November, 2016 Report Share Posted 7November, 2016 thinking of giving the air cooled car a lifttrying to source parts and the common comment is 'well this part isn't made anymore so I'm happy to sit on it and it's just going to go up' and then it just sits there with the sellerAny good trimmers, body shops, parts places?maybe share what you've done and the cost? For the new guys out there who haven't done this beforelooking at new seats, steering wheel, door cars, deck lid, bumper... maybe too much to mention Was quoted 350 plus gst for a black leather wheel retrim and more for a colored wheel911 wheels running for 1k plus now... seats 5k plus... not sure who to ask for fiberglass parts although there are many in the statesrs door cards? SimonN Posted 7November, 2016 Report Share Posted 7November, 2016 SteveFirst, you need to state what car it is for. Second, most things are still made. Third, I wouldn't expect you will find a good parts place in Melbourne. I cannot talk for others, but i buy most of the stuff I need from a range of overseas suppliers. At very least, you should look at Pelican Parts in the USA and Design 911 in the UK. I probably have close to 20 different parts suppliers saved on my browser's favorites. Some are more specialist than others. As for your immediate needs, why do you need new seats? Surely you can get them recovered? A recondition kit in leather with some of the needed foam will cost about $1250-1300 from the UK. $350 for a steering wheel recover? Are you really so stuck on originality, because you are in the price range to put a really nice aftermarket wheel like a Momo, which is what most do. I just got great one with the right amount of patina for $225 and then I had to buy a boss. Door cards are available from almost every parts supplier, including Porsche themselves (google search will bring up loads of options). What bumpers do you need? 2nd hand IB come up on Ebay all the time. Fibreglass ones can be got from Performance 9.

Fibreglass ones can be got from Performance 9.sorry for not specifying earlier, its for a 1969 911i've been gradually sourcing parts from pelican parts and design911seats are not original, neither is the steering wheel, and am trying to balance getting aftermarket parts vs the cost of original, a style / shape that doesn't look too old or out of place vs not deviating excessively from original. I think there is some value in getting original parts although some of the prices asked along with the lack of a sale suggest they are a bit high350 was from a trimming shop in richmond then there was gst and if it wasn't black, the cost to dye the leather and to get new leather, and you are right in that you could get a propotipo for about the same landed, although the cars at duttons all seem to have mostly original parts and instead of buying the same item twice, i was thinking of getting it once. 4 spoke wheels seem to be asking $1k usd now... then when you add up eg some people are asking 10-15k for old seats... it all adds up very quickly. i was originally looking at a kit and DIY, although saw some seat kits that didn't look that good, so thought 350 for the leather and a few hours labor maybe wasn't that bad if it was done well bumpers I was after ones similar to the 911r ones which are available from design911, although i was thinking to support someone in australia if they were available. I had a quick look at performance9 and think its a good site to get parts... I'll add it to the listi was also thinking of getting the badges in shadow chrome or matt silver vinyl in the 356 style but not sure where to get these done fromdo porsche themselves sell rs style doorcards?the trimmer also said that the dashboard was $900 plus to recover plus labor... its got that verticle crack down the middle
Boys Own Garage Posted 7November, 2016 Report Share Posted 7November, 2016 I would have a chat to Boys Own Garage for your seats and steering wheel needs Thanks for that Steve88. SteveC, as I said, happy to have a chat. Just finishing off all the above and then some on my own SWB build and currently assisting a client to do a ST Backdate, so when it comes to available bits and pieces I am sure I can help!
