Doish13 Posted 25November, 2012 Report Share Posted 25November, 2012 Ok with my birthday a few weeks out I decided to treat myself to a new sports steering wheel. Only one problem: being the first time I've considered buying a sports steering in several years I've quickly realized, Many of those better car accessory stores have closed down and vanished. Gone it appears are those speed shops where you cold take a part to your car to see what it looks like. Still have the likes of AutoOne around however they don't stock what I want ie any really proven brands. I would like to try on a Momo mod8 as well as a couple of deep dish numbers however it appears my options are limited to the net which sucks as I've got no way of checking it out and seeing it before buying. Shame as I always loved visiting those stores. Does anyone know of any stores like this in Sydney? I'm going to try Reveloution tomorrow as a last effort before resigning to the Internet shortly
cyberpunky Posted 25November, 2012 Report Share Posted 25November, 2012 The specialist retail model just doesn't work anymore. Stock, rent, staff, advertising, etc all cost too much when ppl can go online and buy the same item from a seller who has none of these costs and so can sell for considerably less. We have voted with our wallets and made our selves a world where we can buy from large chain outlets or online. The little guy who knew his product never stood a chance and is now gone or on the way out just my $0.02 worth
Uncle Posted 25November, 2012 Report Share Posted 25November, 2012 I am putting a Momo on my car next week and also have a quality Nardi wheel I am going to take off. You're welcome to try either next weekend.
Doish13 Posted 25November, 2012 Author Report Share Posted 25November, 2012 Thanks Uncle - due to family and work commitments im not going to make it next weekend however appreciate the offer. Are you looking at flat or deep dish with your Momo replacement?
Uncle Posted 25November, 2012 Report Share Posted 25November, 2012 No probs. That's a shame who am I going to talk Krav with while the others talk normal poeple stuff lol. Momo I have is flat. I am useing a quick release hub to make getting in and out of the car easier with the race seats and cage. This birings the wheel closer. If you end up with a flat wheel but want it closer I have a new Momo wheel spacer floating around here some place I bought of Q back in the day. I've prolly got boss kit floating around also but I am not sure what model 911 it's off. Either G series of 964 I think.
randall Posted 26November, 2012 Report Share Posted 26November, 2012 How thick is the spacer Uncle? If Doish does not want it I may be interested in taking it off your hands.
Uncle Posted 26November, 2012 Report Share Posted 26November, 2012 Don't 100% know of the top of my head around 40 or 50mm. I'll measure it when I get a chance and get back to you.
Doish13 Posted 26November, 2012 Author Report Share Posted 26November, 2012 Spent my lunch break on line trying to find a stockist of Momo steering wheels hat actually have stock in store...nada! Even tried Auto teck which was home to Momo in Sydney - nope, shop now is only admin. So it looks like the net will be my way to go - anyone here have a dished steering wheel and can give me an insight into if it's recommended over flat? Is there anything to know about the dished wheels? I'm thinking this as they only sit closer to you. Any experiences / advice would be appreciated.
