SteamWolf Posted 17January, 2013 Report Share Posted 17January, 2013 Hi all, tonight the high beams started playing up and now they won't turn off at all. Had to pull the fuses on them. Any common issues that cause this?
jnr356 Posted 17January, 2013 Report Share Posted 17January, 2013 the switch, the contact points inside have more than likely melted
Uncle Posted 17January, 2013 Report Share Posted 17January, 2013 Left field, but have you checked the location of the indicator stalk?
Russ Posted 17January, 2013 Report Share Posted 17January, 2013 i sort of assume it's similar to what i did, mine used to come on going over bumps and round corners theres contacts in the back, and you just need to bend the high beam contact away from the others sometimes theres a peice of bakelite that breaks - i followed the thread below from pelican and it fixed mine http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/248149-turn-signal-switch-quick-fix-pictures.html

SteamWolf Posted 17January, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 17January, 2013 Ahh excellent, thanks for that info! Seems likely considering how it was playing up a few days prior.
SteamWolf Posted 23January, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 23January, 2013 Cheers for that! I bent the contacts back a bit. The 4th contact was fused together and when it popped free it now just floats around so something deep in the switch is broken. Now low beams don't work and high beam only works when pulling back on the lever. Looks like new switch time.
Uncle Posted 23January, 2013 Report Share Posted 23January, 2013 Bugger! Is it easy enough to get at? Also do you want to make Monday service day? I was planning on running a spanner over my car before the ACT run and swapping out the lower rocker cover for the new one.
Russ Posted 24January, 2013 Report Share Posted 24January, 2013 i've been told theres a bit of bakelte in there that you need to replace to keep them seperate, but maybe theres a solder broke somewhere
SteamWolf Posted 25January, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 25January, 2013 JustJames to the rescue again. I'll pull the old one apart and find out what broke once the new one is in there. It was reasonably easy to get to. Steering wheel off, plastic shroud off, 2 screws that hold it in place and some talented wiggling to get it free from the column.
