Not stupid at all, I asked exactly the same when we picked up our 987.1 Boxster from the well respected Sydney independent we purchased it from. The recommendation was to use 98 where possible, either BP or Caltex / Ampol. Steer clear of other cheapies and majors not noted here, unless absolutely necessary. 6 cars in, still follow this, helped by the fact that BP is our closest and most convenient service station.
