Flash Posted 24March, 2013 Report Share Posted 24March, 2013 Hi all I am new to the forum as I have recently purchased a 1979 Porsche 924. Overall the car is not in bad shape with some minor surface rust spots and paint peels especially on the roof. Restoration and upgraded work in progress. Besides having the above issues sorted I am looking for anyone locally selling the GT body kit. I am specifically looking for the rear flares, boot spoiler and rear valance. I discussed with a few suppliers in the UK but the cost of postage is too high to justify. I am also looking for local suppliers of all rubber seals, an uncracked dash and or a plastic retro fit covering. I have seen many US suppliers advertising this but unfortunately they all only do left hand drives. If anyone knows of a right hand drive supplier I would definitely be interested. Look forward to any assistance. Cheers
OZ930 Posted 24March, 2013 Report Share Posted 24March, 2013 Sounds like a 924 Carrera GT replica on the boil. I'm sure everyone will enjoy progress pictures and offer help and advise on your journey of PO (thats Porsche Ownership not the other one). wasserkuhl Posted 24March, 2013 Report Share Posted 24March, 2013 Overseas is your best bet. There are far more specialists in this area located in both europe and the USA. Being a RHD you will need to mostly search the the UK. Given the current exchange rates and the relatively low cost of postage, I buy parts from overseas exclusively as locally you either bend over and get aggressively caressed in the sphincter price wise or you deal with complete twats that have no idea nor care about what you are trying to achieve. If you need specific items PM me and I can provide you with some links to trustworthy vendors of transaxle parts. ebay UK is a very good place to start. ie got to www.ebay.co.uk and not the australian site. wasserkuhl Posted 24March, 2013 Report Share Posted 24March, 2013 Heres one in the UK, looks to be in good shape as well. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PORSCHE-924-944-Dash-board-Black-LUX-CARRERA-GT-/251245120080?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3APorsche%7CModel%3A924&hash=item3a7f604a50 All your seals etc can be found here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/944M_catalog.htm Get a quote on Postage from the UK from the seller before making a best offer. I would suggest a price in the range of 80-100GBP is still good buying.
Flash Posted 24March, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 24March, 2013 Thanks guys. The small parts like seals etc are fine for postage from UK have already ordered some stuff from porscheshop.uk which was quite reasonably priced. Was specifically looking for some local with respect to GT kit. Saw a blog from 2008 of a guy in Brisbane with the moulds to make and on a long shot emailed him, he replied saying that he has since moved however still has the moulds but to time or man power to make:(. Some pics .... note car was badly neglected however the body is straight with little to no rust, roof and interior has been severely sun damaged though. Will definitely take time to sort out properly. PS: tried installing boot lid shocks today and noticed the lid was heaving at the hinges so removed the shocks. It sees that the silicone has given up. Do you guys know if possible to get guys like OBriens to remove and refit?
tazzieman Posted 24March, 2013 Report Share Posted 24March, 2013 Pelican site for your 924 is sorta hidden! Here it is http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/P007_catalog.htm I bought seals and other bits from the UK. Many ebay.uk suppliers only ship to a UK address. I use my cousin in Cornwall and she forwards on.

Delamination? http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/924-931-944-951-968-forum/676875-rear-hatch-glass-problem.html If so , a tricky one to repair. On my 944 I initially replaced the shocks but after reading the new ones put a huge amount of stress on the frame I removed them. OK , with the lid spoiler it's pretty heavy now - but I really don't want delamination.
Flash Posted 24March, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 24March, 2013 Thanks tazzieman will leave shocks out for now but will try to strip and clean as discussed in the link provided once i have some time to do... Will unfortunately have to be done on my car as the gap is considerable when the lid twisted abit. it seems to be out of the frame at the top>>>
9fan Posted 25March, 2013 Report Share Posted 25March, 2013 Depends how original you want to keep it. Could consider a 944 hatch with spoiler even - suggest search privately rather than parts supplier. Did you ask wether you could make deposit and borrow moulds to make set ? Flash Posted 25March, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 25March, 2013 hey Guys have been talking to Simon from Pro-9 Porsche in the uk about sourcing my required parts. Have any of you dealt with them before. If so please provide some feed back on your experience. Are they trust worthy etc. He is able to ship most of my required stuff by sea to keep cost down of the bulky items, ie GT Kit +/- 200Gbp still waiting for insurance quote. Air freight is almost 3-4 times this.
