High idle when warm

Went to Lakeside yesterday, to watch. Met a mature gentlemen in driving an Alvin open wheeler. Found out he also had a 1988 944S, exactly the same as mine. He asked if I knew about a fix for a high idle when WARM. He said it was 2500rpm! When cold it started normally and idled at correct rpm.

I suggested places on line he could check to get an answer. He said he was not on-line and not into “technology”. So I volunteered to find a answer and call him back. He gave me his landline number.

I’ve checked Rennlist, Pelican Parts & Clark’s Garage and there seems to be a variety of answers, but not as high as his 2500 rpm:

  • vacuum leak
  • ICV sticking
  • TPS

Has anyone had similar issues? Is there some testing that needs to be done to isolate the issue?

Any assistance would be much appreciated.
