Porsche 997.2 Rear View Mirror

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Hoping for some advice. I have a 911, 997.2 Auto Dim Rear View mirror that is hazy. I've read on a US forum that this seems to happen when the auto dim starts playing up and liquid leaks?

People have resolved by full replacement or sending in the mirror and having just the mirror part replaced.

Some quick phone calls and the cost of a OEM replacement is $1400 for the replacement part, excluding labour. Strathfield car radios have advised that Auto Dim is proprietary technology that is owned by one or two companies and if I wanted it to look like original, then I need to buy original. He suggested getting another branded one with a cover that goes on top of the Porsche setup that has other tech like rear view parking.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue, whether it be with a 997.2 or with another variant and what you did about it. Are there other options to replace with a some other rear mirror that is not Porsche branded. Auto Dim is not a must have.

Thanks.

Thanks AD911S. The link that you have provided is for the non Auto Dim version of the mirror, which I'm perfectly fine with.

Would you (or anyone) know if this would be a straight swap out from the Auto Dim version?

I will send a note to them and ask the question to them as well.

Thanks.

For the record, Pelican parts was not able to confirm whether a non auto dim mirror would fit the auto dim housing. Other porsche specialist independents werent able to confirm either. It's not something that people do, apparently.

For the record, I managed to get this sorted by sending the mirror to the US and utilising the services of Radar-Mirror – Custom Radar Integration | Auto Dim Mirror Repair

Brilliant customer service from Scott. They got the job done promptly and sent back the mirror in a timely manner. No marks or scratches on the mirror. Reinstalled and everything works as it should. Saved myself the cost of a new mirror, which was $2k. Spent around $300 all up. Well worth it.

Some lessons learned. No error codes displayed when taking the auto dim mirror off. This would likely mean that you could replace it with the non auto dim version. Looks to be the same housing attachments. The hardest part of the whole process was taking the clam housing cover off. Now that I've done it, it easy, but geez, a lot of time wasted.

Anyway, thanks for your help.
