cyberpunky Posted 10August, 2013 Report Share Posted 10August, 2013 The big issue is the batteries and what is done to the environment to mine the materials used in them, and the shipping etc. Although ppl talk of fossil fuels being used to generate the power for EV's, the reality is that due to the base loads power stations have to generate, unless we all sart driving them, currently electric vehicles have no effect on that base load, so no extra fossils are used The whole issue is full of grey area's and cans of worms, and as stated above, keeping an old car going is actually better for things than buying any new car, and that's my story and I'm sticking to it lol I'm a recycler not a petrol head
tazzieman Posted 10August, 2013 Report Share Posted 10August, 2013 http://environment.about.com/od/environmentfriendlyautos/a/new_old_cars.htm And it's no wonder modern cars have to be more fuel efficient and powerful - they are bloated with luxuries , the vast majority of which are quite unnecessary and irrelevant in the equation of getting from A to B or indeed , driving for pleasure. I've got a forge , so I am a bit medieval in my views
