Doish13 Posted 1August, 2013 Report Share Posted 1August, 2013 Looking at replacing all my brittle and aged hoses around the engine going from heat exchangers etc etc (card board hoses) and have noticed metallic look hoses ( eg Gates hoses on eBay from the US) as an alternative to OEM. Does anyone have feedback on these if you have had experience with them, ie they don't deal with the heat of the engine bay well etc? Also apart from Pelican and eBay, can you recommend where to buy from as I cannot see this being a high volume sale part. Project for remainder of winter is tidy the engine bay - this is the first step.
cyberpunky Posted 2August, 2013 Report Share Posted 2August, 2013 I used Lindsey racing silicone hoses to replace a lot of mine and they look like they will be good for at least another 50 years Link to some 911 hoses (not sure if right ones for your car)
tazzieman Posted 2August, 2013 Report Share Posted 2August, 2013 They aren't cardboard - they are aluminium coated with a papery cover to prevent corrosion. Replace like with like - they must be able to withstand heat. And no , the German paper doesn't ignite
Harvs11 Posted 2August, 2013 Report Share Posted 2August, 2013 I replaced a damaged paper covered hose with the black painted ally hose. It's the same as supplied by PP which I bought locally in Moorabin. It was cut to the correct length and was easy enough to bend into the required shape. The 30+ year old originals were very brittle and broke up if I tried to bend them. Doish, ask around your local P car spare parts suppliers to see who has stock.
