tazzieman Posted 19September, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 19September, 2013 I wonder why they designed it? not a huge difference to a kubelwagen By 1954, however, Germany was ready to fulfill its NATO obligations and assist in the defense of Western Europe. Modern equipment was needed for the newly created Bundeswehr, or Federal Army, and the German government submitted requests for an all-purpose four-wheel-drive, quarter-ton military vehicle. The car had to be simple, rugged, and reliable. Three manufacturers were asked to come up with proposals: Borgward, Auto Union, and Porsche. And being a Porsche , it was overpriced in a part of the world that wasn't exactly wealthy post WW2...
Harvs11 Posted 21September, 2013 Report Share Posted 21September, 2013 Video is great. Especially the workshop. The hoist setup reminds me of the Landrover in "The Gods must be crazy"

wasserkuhl Posted 21September, 2013 Report Share Posted 21September, 2013 I wonder why they designed it? not a huge difference to a kubelwagen Because they could. The Kubel wasn't AWD, this appears to be AWD. Oh and the Kubel couldn't pull a cargo train or carry a stack of 10m high empty crates. Love these old period factory films though...........I'd give my coin purse to have been there, war or no war....
