Simonk Posted 27April, 2014 Report Share Posted 27April, 2014 One thing that became evident to me yesterday was to never leave the car sitting for too long, otherwise it gets upset. The car had sat for 4 weeks in the garage without being turned on, hence the flat battery. When I did start it up she groaned some odd noises for a little but they quickly went away. One thing I did notice though was some whine in 3rd and 4th gear. A noise I hadn't heard before which seemed to kick in over about 3,000rpm. Didn't do it in 5th and wasn't in 2nd long enough to notice. After the stop just before Reefton Spur, got back in and the noise was completely gone and back to normal in all gears. I know the cure on this one is just drive the car more often but is this a sign of things to come? Should I perhaps change the gearbox oil as a precaution. Could the noise actually be something else other than the gearbox? It seems odd that the noise would just disappear like that.
Pauly Posted 28April, 2014 Report Share Posted 28April, 2014 gearbox oil. Change it. While your at it, get your VC joints re packed with grease too.
Paul Carrera Posted 11May, 2014 Report Share Posted 11May, 2014 I had a terrible whine in my car and found the best way to get rid of it was to leave the wife at home
