Tit Posted 27July, 2014 Report Share Posted 27July, 2014 Hey all...most of you may know of Mighty Car Mods. They have recently run a fairly cool series, dropping a Subaru Tribeca engine into a Legacy wagon and then throwing a rather large turbo on it. This is great 'fabrication porn'... Put aside a few hours for the whole series. Here's the first one: Season 6 playlist:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLp0KnUFYB--gQq2CJBSCPG6Vs12Aw7Btb
FlatSix Posted 27July, 2014 Report Share Posted 27July, 2014 I wish putting a 3.6 turbo in our cars was that affordable! Pretty sure I saw Blair riding the pushie back to Sydney on the motorway the other week
Tit Posted 27July, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 27July, 2014 I was trying to do rough maths on the build. I reckon they still probably parted with at least $12-15k... 12 days labour, gearbox, new engine, Donated turbo, wheels, suspension & fluids, ECU... I reckon they still probably parted with at least $12-15k... 12 days labour, gearbox, new engine, Donated turbo, wheels, suspension & fluids, ECU... I'd say 12 days labour for both Al and Miles would be about $15k (considering how long the hours they put in were) then about $5k on engine and $5k on other bits like stainless for the exhaust, heat probes. and another few $k for brakes/suspension. I'd guess the turbo/BOV/ECU were all in exchange for sponsorship (as was Scott's help) I'd think in the real world it'd be a $25k-$30k conversion if you had to buy everything yourself
Tit Posted 27July, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 27July, 2014 Sure. But there would be a bucket of sponsorship etc in there. Bringing it down.
Russ Posted 28July, 2014 Report Share Posted 28July, 2014 yeah I probably agree with $10-$15k for them though They do earn a small amount of money from Youtube, but that probably only covers production cost and travel/accommodation/food etc
Russ Posted 28July, 2014 Report Share Posted 28July, 2014 their next project goes live on the 31st too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNHJwEU4mZw
Pauly Posted 28July, 2014 Report Share Posted 28July, 2014 Loved this build. watched it as soon as it was uploaded, couldn't wait! But the GTX3576r is quite small for a 3.6L well a good size for amazing response. (note i have a gtx3076R on my 2.5L. Same compressor wheel but the smaller turbine) A lot of stuff was donated to them, GFB bits, haltech parts garrett turbo
tscott Posted 28July, 2014 Report Share Posted 28July, 2014 Not exactly bad publicity for Al and Miles, wouldn't be surprised if the labour was at mates rates. I've enjoyed the series. must.resist.temptation.to.sink.too.much.money.into.a.sleeper.
tscott Posted 28July, 2014 Report Share Posted 28July, 2014 Though, I do wonder how stealth the car will be after 300k views. People will be eying silver liberty wagons with suspicion for years to come
Russ Posted 28July, 2014 Report Share Posted 28July, 2014 I've had much respect for AM Auto's work for a while, this was one of their most impressive conversions - 1GZ-FE with turbo into 190E Mercedes.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6fsP7vDCEA
