Martini racing Oils

While I don't disagree that time/tech can improve the breed in relation to the Owner's Manual prescribing 'oils of the day', I also suppose it's worth repeating some of the stories based on oil choices. Such as when a 20w/50 mineral oil was the 'correct' item of the day were there multiple cases of premature component wear? Conversely, when Mobil changed the makeup of their very well marketed product and reduced levels of ZDDP (without actually announcing this) was there an increase in this wear? If the answer to these 2 questions is 'No' & 'Yes' then it begs the question of why change a good thing?
