Jim's 930

Hello everybody. After a lot of encouragement from Vas, I have decided to FINALLY start my own 930 thread.

In late May, I did a deal with a gentlemen on a fair condition 1985 model 930. The body was a bit rough, the interior probably a little better, and unfortunately the original wheels were missing. Other than the wheels, the car seems to have most of the original bits and pieces. On further inspection, the car looks to have never been in a major accident, with most of the paint looking to be very original. The idea was to keep the car as it was with the plan to slowly (and I mean in a few years) of cleaning it up to a respectable condition. After all, I had just purchased my dream car and I loved it as it was. How quickly things can change! After only driving it for the second time, I drove passed my panel beater to get the stone chips inspected on the front bar. After some discussions with him, and then a couple of days thinking about it (and no doubt drawing inspiration from Vas), I decided to give the car a full respray.

SO to cut an already long story a little short, the car has been at the panel beater for 7 weeks. It is very slowly being done. I have also since purchased just about every external rubber, felts and most lights to give it a really 'new' look. I have also sourced some original fuchs wheels which are in the process of being restored.

I have some very low res shots which I took on my phone attached below. Unfortunately, I didn't really take any proper before shots of the entire car before the work commenced, but here goes. Enjoy.

Hi Jim,

As a fellow 930 lover I have to say I am really excited for you just as I was for Vas. Love the dark blue and I look forward to following the progress and seeing the finished product in the flesh when all is done...

Cheers

Chris

Go the 930.

Well done Jim, your car is just awesome.

I love the colour, its similar to my old 89.

So glad you are going with the Fuchs.

Getting all the rubbers and seals will make it look like new.

Doing so much of the work yourself is a credit to you.

To have your dream car at your young age speaks of your determination.

Good luck with the resto. :)

Please post as many pics as you can.

Looking forward to annoying the hell out of you with questions. :D:D:D

Congrats on your purchase and good luck with the project Jim.

I was looking at the 'low res' shots at the start thinking how great it looked originally and then saw the 'in progress' stuff. Aarrghh!

Quick question. Who is doing the respray? I am asking as I need to get my GT3 done and want to canvass the appropriate shops and don't want to miss anyone good for a quote & chat.

Just to give you guys an update. The car should be ready next week. I was also very happy to learn that there was no rust in any part of the car. Also, there is no evidence of any structural or body damage as all creases/joins are original, as well as most of the paint (except the front and rear bars which seem to have been repainted somewhere in their lives). My panel beater claims that this is one of the better 911 bodies that he has seen.

The next update should include photo's of the finished product. Stay tuned......

Jim,

Met you today at Porsche Parts, spending some more money on your baby.

The car looks good and will look awesome when it's done. The wait will be worth it once its done and you are enjoying the sight and sounds.

Look fwd to seeing the update pics as they come and the final result once you pick it up.

Kevin

Just a quick update. The bars, sideskirts, sunroof and various other trims have been painted. I couldn't get any proper shots as they were in a dark spray booth and the flash wasn't helping me, but here is one. You can sort of see the colour. I have also attached a pic of one of the refurbished wheels.

Update time....

Unfortunately, the car is still not finished. It looks like there is a fair chance that it's getting painted tomorrow. I hope!!! However, I did pick up the bars, side skirts, mirrors and roof. I thought that I would attach a shot of the mirror so I could give you guys a sample of the colour. I am very happy with what has been completed already. The colour looks amazing, an exact fresh version of the original. Let me know what you think.
