$25 per hour.....really !

Recommended Posts

I had an insurance job done by a large local shop. Was on the family hack. Insured by racq.

Job has issues, so i obtained the parts list from the insurer to see exactly what was replaced.

Firstly,  racq pay $25 per hour for labur. Im amazed its so low.

Secondly, my lh headlight assembly was $3500 (for a 10yo mercedes wagon)

That shop made $850 labour charge on a $10k job.

The problem was my new lh headlight for 3500 is actually my old one patched up. I can understand why they try it, but <VENT>

Insurance companies are well known for screwing down labour rates for bodyworks.... I guess the $3.5k headlight is their way for making up for it!!? I have owned Mercs for a while and cannot believe that a new headlight costs that much.... Get the insurer to sort out that is why you pay them, insist on another bodyworks if they continue to stuff you around....

I know this sounds like I am stating the obvious, and i know your car is 10 years old but I have always insured my Mercs through Mercedes Benz Insurance.  When I have needed panel beating (twice when idiots texting have run into the back of me) I have taken the cars to a Mercedes Benz Authorised repairer. The last time was the actual dealer who sold me the car new, MB Brighton, who also have a panel shop as part of their dealership. The link with MB Insurance and the MB Dealer running the Panel Shop meant that there was seamless interaction and perfect results.  I will never insure with anyone else with regard to the MB and I will never go anywhere but MB Brighton for the repairs if another idiot texting (or whatever) runs into me again.  I was really happy with the service received and repairs from not only the insurer but also MB Brighton.  The car was perfect and the service I received was second to none.  Highly recommend them.

True, but not too many authorised MB repairers in Byron Bay.   It's a two hour drive to a recommended one.

Are they rectifying or are you in the breeze?

They don't know the full extent yet as I just received the parts list from the Insurer.   Will be taking the car to them on Monday (early close on Friday) and they will be made well and truly aware of their issues.

So non-genuine is $343, genuine MB is $513.25 USD.   So let's say around $800 for a genuine MB light assembly delivered in AUD.  5x markupMB-LH-Headlight.png

I use NRMA as insurer but choice of repairer so like Phil its an MB authorised, for my couple of times it was perfect auto who are a sole MB repairer and are amazing, free loaner and everything. Not that we are spoilt for choice in Sydney but certainly a much shorter distance than you had Chris, so an easier decision.

Do you have an option to take the car to an racq inspection station locally first?  In my opinion what they have done is not only dodgy on you it's actually fraud against the insurance company....
