withers Posted 2August, 2012 Report Share Posted 2August, 2012 Hey guys, I noticed that Porsche Melb have 2006 Cayman for $62k at the moment. They seem to be depreciating roughly the same as the Boxster of the same era, bare in mind I've only been watching prices for a short time. Is this a correct assumption? Based on the knowledge you guys have on the market, what would you expect them to be worth in another year??? What is the general consensus on a Cayman of this era? Anything to watch out for or are they exactly the same underneath as the Boxster (which they seem to be) which means they are pretty well sorted. Guest vas930 Posted 3August, 2012 Report Share Posted 3August, 2012 Thats about right, Amanda. Not sure how far they will fall. 50k in 2 or 3 years ? Great car for you
Guest Nick987 Posted 3August, 2012 Report Share Posted 3August, 2012 Bear in mind unless PCM are offering something other dealers or a private seller aren't or can't, like say an extended warranty, I have found their prices to be very high. Top of market. Eg 2006 Cayman S ALOT more fun with the punchier motor, better brakes and performance tuned suspension...for $59,500 The 'S' was 30-40k more when new than the standard Cayman... withers Posted 3August, 2012 Author Report Share Posted 3August, 2012 Yes, in comparison to the PCM car, they are far better buys. However, I think I'd prefer to go via a Dealer where I'll get some piece of mind warranty wise. Especially when there'd be some finance involved. Love those rims too Nick. I see them on Boxsters and always admire them
PeterP Posted 3August, 2012 Report Share Posted 3August, 2012 When they say Tiptronic...gear change on the steering wheel; do they mean paddles, or buttons on the font of the wheel (I think some vehicles have this)?? regards Peter
Guest Nick987 Posted 3August, 2012 Report Share Posted 3August, 2012 Usually buttons on a Porsche. Tiptronic is the P auto pre PDK.
T-Man Posted 3August, 2012 Report Share Posted 3August, 2012 I think the Cayman is a ripper option Amanda . Short of a current 911, Dave's GT3 RS4.0, or Nick987's driving prowess, you are certainly at the head of the SMT pack. Has all the options you could want in a current vehicle. I note that you spoke about finance. Good idea to talk to your broker early as I don't believe an older car like a 964 could be financed apart from a personal/home loan. withers Posted 3August, 2012 Author Report Share Posted 3August, 2012 Cheers Theo, with finance on an older car - they just hit you up big for interest! it's been a long time since I've owned a car older that 10yrs, so it may have changed. teknostar Posted 4August, 2012 Report Share Posted 4August, 2012 Yes, in comparison to the PCM car, they are far better buys. However, I think I'd prefer to go via a Dealer where I'll get some piece of mind warranty wise. Especially when there'd be some finance involved. Just get a good PPI done by Weltmeister or PCM, and buy privately. IMO you will probably get a better car, and certainly a significantly better price. When i shop for a second hand car (preferably one owner) i spend as much time looking at the vendor as i do the car. If i don't trust or like the look of the vendor, I walk away immediately. Looking at and quizzing the vendor will tell you much about how the car has been maintained. The second cayman ($65,900) looks like a very clean car and a great deal. I would be offering $60k as a starting point subject to satisfactory PPI.
teknostar Posted 4August, 2012 Report Share Posted 4August, 2012 I have found Stratton Finance to be good. Especially the alphera (BMW) product.
eriktufa Posted 28August, 2012 Report Share Posted 28August, 2012 Just joined the forum and don't mind a bit more clarification in regards to the 2006 Cayman S with ~100k km. Interested in doing PPI for it but I am a bit worried about the high kms although generally a well maintained car will not give any problems. Pity it's not manual

eriktufa Posted 28August, 2012 Report Share Posted 28August, 2012 Hi I am one of the few who normally thinks "this is too good to be true" if something is pretty cheap so I normally like to do more research about cars that I am interested in. As you know it is the cheapest Cayman S in the market for $56,000 however the km is pretty high (The 2006 Tiptronic Silver with 103,000 km). Will it be expensive to maintain in the long run? I consider Cayman S & E46 M3 as a little super car (to my standard) that I can afford at the moment but I am staying away from M3 due to potential expensive future maintenance cost, will it be the same with the Cayman S? Thanks, Erik
Guest Nick987 Posted 28August, 2012 Report Share Posted 28August, 2012 If it has a full service history intact it has had a major service +plugs at 90k. If the major service wasn't done that can be a few k at the dealer. Unsure what specialists would charge but still wont be cheap. Check the maintenance schedule here. I am guessing all these cars cost more as they age as more wear and tear occurs and more things need replacing and fixing. P's and Beemers aren't cheap cars to maintain. Then again alot of recent VW's and japanese cars aren't either.
Guest Nick987 Posted 28August, 2012 Report Share Posted 28August, 2012 I guess having said all that, would need to know what sort of driving and how much you do in a year and what your interpretation of 'cheap' is! And for Melbourne roads and speed limits, these are definitely mini supercars IMO.
J.J. Posted 28August, 2012 Report Share Posted 28August, 2012 this would have to be the best looking Cayman i have seen.. love it.. and i hate Caymans http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/porsche-cayman-2008-12569959?base=1216&vertical=Car&cr=8&eapi=2&__N=1246+1247+1252+1282+4294963765+4294963711+1216&num=15&silo=Stock&sort=default

eriktufa Posted 11September, 2012 Report Share Posted 11September, 2012 Mmmmm I am confused now... talked to the car mentioned above. The auto has got way more options than the manual but it is still auto not manual. The auto is firm on the price and manual probably can be had for high 50s. Any thoughts guys? Thanks for helping Erik
