Extended Warranty for 991NA

I'm thinking about extending the warranty  on my manual 2012 991.1S NA. 25kkms on the clock. So far i've had the rear lid gas strut replaced under warranty. They have tried to address rattles and squeaks in the doors under warranty with no success. Rattles are more apparent when listening to talk back radio.

PCSS have quoted $2090 for 1-year and $3190 for 2-year extended warranty.

Are any members aware of any known problems or weak points? Has there been any experience with significant warranty claims with the 991NA.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

My Spyder has the warranty current

Its worth having - yes its insurance at the end of the day but when your dealing with complex modern cars I suggest you need it. Wouldn't take much to exceed $1600/year. Note however they typically don't cover trim items that may break but you have the ability for some negotiation.

Its also transferable if you sell the car on and to me gives reassurance for the buyer when you come to sell

But don't you have to have the car serviced @ an OPC to keep the warranty up... ie you cannot go to a Porsche specialist for your servicing??

I get the car serviced by Porsche - however I believe the terms of the warranty are getting an annual warranty check done by Porsche; maybe it has a fee if you aren't getting them to service the car

I took out extended warranty on my last 991.1, it had 33,000K on the clock at the end of 3 years. Even though I had it from new I did give it some serious stick, it had only been flogged 50 times. I don't care about the little items, my main concern was engine/gearbox. There was nothing wrong with the 3 991.1's I had but if there was major catastrophic failure $2K would be a drop in the ocean. I intend to take out extended warranty on my 991.2 when it reaches the standard warranty period. For me it's a piece of mind thing which has a cost that I'm prepared to pay.

I agree it’s a small price to pay but from what I’m reading in forums there haven’t been any major 991 faults (engine or transmission). I rarely read about problems relating to the 9A1 engine which has had time to iron out since the 997.2. Would be interesting to hear of examples where a claim has justified the premium paid for warranty extension. Rattles and squeaks are not covered but my dealer attempted to correct without charge.

Yes agree, I haven’t heard of any majors. I think it’s a personal choice, nothing more or nothing less.

I have extended on my Porsche warranty for 2 years and it provides peace of mind.  They offer a discount if you take more than one year as an extension.  I love knowing that the car can be driven as intended and if something breaks then it will be repaired.  Good for resale too.  I have no problem taking it to Porsche to service either as the cost is fixed each time so a no brainer for me.  They also offer twelve months roadside assist if you have the car serviced by a Porsche dealer.

My Mercedes is about to run out of warranty at the end of March, I have not yet checked with MB but does anyone know if they offer the same opportunity to extend the warranty?

Yes, I extended my last Merc. I also extended the Audi before that.

Bit of a conundrum if you think about it. Would you offer a warranty on something you knew was going to fail?? For the business, it’s a risk versus reward scenario, obviously because the business has assessed the risk as minimal they are prepared to offer the warranty. Ergo,  the risk of failure as determined by Porsche is almost nil. So as owners are we to question our manufacturer as-to the reliability of our cars. I think I just made a case against extended warranty,  but as per the Clint Eastwood movie”do you feel lucky today punk”? Take your chances, roll the dice!
