Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice or to see if anyone has had the same problem.

My drivers side window won't close itself when shutting the door (the 12mm or so).
If the window is shut, when you pull the door handle, inside or out, the window drops automatically to allow the glass to clear the door frame seal.
I have to raise it with the switch.

I can use the window switch to lower the window in one go but it won't do the same up.

The passenger window is fine.  I've disconnected the battery to try to reset the window but that does not work unfortunately.

My research suggests a broken micro switch in the door lock. So the window doesn't recognise when the door is shut that it should raise the glass.
I've found the part number too: 3D2837016 which James at Autohaus can get me for $574.

Before I order the part, I'd love to hear if anyone has had the same problem, and if they know how it was fixed?

Thanks

Did mine last week in 996. I changed door handle micro switch ($60) first as thought that was the issue, wasn’t ended up changing window regulator($400) that fixed it.

‘what I read from research is if window drops when you pull handle and open door then when u release it goes up again while door open, it’s the door micro switch as it cant tell when door is open or closed. If it won’t drop at all it’s the regulator.

Thanks Tips.

My window drops but doesn't come up? So when the door is open the window stays down but when I close, it won't come up.  I have to use the switch to raise?

So I don't think its the door handle micro switch. And it doesn't quite sound like the regulator? Got me stumped.

Have you tried the reset learning for auto up and down? I think it's press down hold for 5 seconds after it gets to bottom then repeat for up.

Yeah, that was my first thing. Worked for passenger window but not drivers 😫

I think you are correct in your diagnosis. It sounds like the microswitch in the latch.

I had a slightly different issue than yours and my research led me to the latch, and  once I replaced it, all was good again.

When I replaced mine 5 months ago on the 996, I bought mine from Porsche and I paid $343.

Thanks Dreamr.  Sorry you had an issue but glad to hear that it was resolved with the latch.  I was quoted $574 by Porsche and Autohaus.

Did you happen to have a part number for your latch? I'm curious to see if it is indeed the same as on my Cayman.

Thanks

Sorry for the delay.

I don't have it handy but I'm pretty sure it's not the same part number as yours. Must be different parts for 996 and Cayman.

Only mentioned Porsche as another possible avenue to get a price from .. but looks like you already did that .. 😅

If you have or can borrow a code reader (e.g., iCarSoft) it will tell you what it is I believe.

Hi Merv,

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have a iCarSoft reader which I totally forgot to try.  I did actually try it yesterday but I've forgotten how to use it properly.  I keep getting an error saying it can't connect to the ECU, so if I try to manually check on an individual component like the driver or passenger door I get the message it can't connect to the ECU? Have you come across this by any chance?

Thanks

Not at all. So you connect it to the OBD port (not USB) and turn the Ignition ON? Something wrong with the device or the port?

Thanks for the video link.  Must be something with the connection? as I've used it to reset my service light successfully after every service. I'll play again soon and see what happens.

Cheers
