Window issue

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice or to see if anyone has had the same problem with their windows.
I have a 2006 987.1 Cayman S.

I've posted this in the Mid section of the form but thought I'd post here too as I believe the parts and problem can occur on 997 911's as well.

My drivers side window won't close itself when shutting the door (the 12mm or so).
If the window is shut, when you pull the door handle, inside or out, the window drops automatically to allow the glass to clear the door frame seal.
I have to raise it with the switch.

I can use the window switch to lower the window in one go but it won't do the same up.

The passenger window is fine.  I've disconnected the battery to try to reset the window but that does not work unfortunately.

My research suggests a broken micro switch in the door lock. So the window doesn't recognise when the door is shut that it should raise the glass.
I've found the part number too: 3D2837016 which James at Autohaus can get me for $574.

Before I order the part, I'd love to hear if anyone has had the same problem, and if they know how it was fixed?

Thanks for your help.

G'day

I had virtually the same problem in my 996. Several years ago, so I can't recall whether it was the down or the up, but yes, the micro switch was the fault and unfortunately you have to replace the complete door lock mechanism.

James is a good operator and I have been buying from him for many years now ;)

Thanks for looking firstone!

Looks very similar.  I haven't pulled mine out yet.

The part number is slightly different 3D2837016.  It would be awesome if it fit at that price!

I responded to your other post, believe it’s the window regulator had same issue with my 996 and fixed it last weekend

If you go to the web site it seems the 1 and 2 correspond to the same part.

I found a pdf file for parts for the cayman.

I don't know technically what the difference is but the 1 corresponds to the right door of a left hand drive vehicle, and the 2 to the right door of a right hand drive vehicle.

Got me stumped
