Hi Guys,

I might want to do a PPI on a car in Horsley, Woollongong area. Is there any PFA'ers on that side of town that might fancy a looky at it for me???

Any ideas on a mechanic out that way that can do the PPI on Porsche? Given it's a 1.45 hour one way drive to Sydney, the owner isn't keen on a drive to the CBD (don't blame him I wouldn't either in his shoes) so using an Autohaus Hamilton type situation won't work here.

Hi Amanda,

First up I don't know the area, however this may be close, it's in the 'Gong" area.

Not a PORSCHE shop as such, but has restored a 356 & 911. Well respected and been

around a long time.

For a PPI I'm sure he will suss out accident/rust etc & mechanical condition.

I have NO affiliation & not personally used them, for the cost of a call, I'm sure

you will get a "feel" if he can help.

Cheers

John

Amanda is it the boxster you are getting a ppi on? ( great colour!) Whilst I agree wp is a hi po stalwart of the ac vw race and street scene. I would query their model specific knowledge on later model p stuff. My 2 cents.

Perhaps call a number of noted porsche resto shops and ask them for a reference for a high quality body and mech shop. I do know that some will travel within reason and a cost to inspect a car, but this has its practical imits

Btw don't over complicate the maintenance issue on pre 996 ac cars, you have heard enough good stories to know they are solid ( I know people who are using long hoods as daily drivers ) and like any cars including datto 1600's they can be home maintained with specialist work been done by...professionals. With the luck of having a mechanic brother, the usual service items including ball joint ,tie rods etc is straight forward if you have access to tools and are inclined

Buy the car that ticks all the boxes head and HEART

Look forward to finally seeing a thread started by you titled 'smiling while sliding backwards'

Cheers michel

Hi Michel

Yes working on it. The car seems good on paper, great service history and appears to have been cared for. I love the color.

I'm working to a budget. This car is as far as it goes too. So I think I'm on the right track here. Fantastic looking car, handles, modern, has enough power to keep me happy and working AC haha.

I drove one today with just 19,000 km on it but serviced only 3 times since new. Very stone chipped bonnet/bumper for $55k he dropped price to $50k but as soon as I saw that service history it put me off immediately.

I loved the drive tho! I could totally live with a 987. Or a 996 if it was a manual!

Shopping is fun :D
