withers Posted 26April, 2013 Report Share Posted 26April, 2013 Hi Guys, I might want to do a PPI on a car in Horsley, Woollongong area. Is there any PFA'ers on that side of town that might fancy a looky at it for me??? Any ideas on a mechanic out that way that can do the PPI on Porsche? Given it's a 1.45 hour one way drive to Sydney, the owner isn't keen on a drive to the CBD (don't blame him I wouldn't either in his shoes) so using an Autohaus Hamilton type situation won't work here. GC9911 Posted 26April, 2013 Report Share Posted 26April, 2013 Hi Amanda, Horsley Park is nowhere near Wollongong? I am near Wollongong but not Horsley Park, pm me if I can help in Wollongong.

Aussie944S Posted 26April, 2013 Report Share Posted 26April, 2013 When is the inspection needing to happen?
withers Posted 26April, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 26April, 2013 When is the inspection needing to happen? At this point in time, I just need to find a reputable shop to do it and then arrange/book a time that suits both parties. Next week I suppose but need to confirm that. CarreraG50 Posted 26April, 2013 Report Share Posted 26April, 2013 Hi Amanda,First up I don't know the area, however this may be close, it's in the 'Gong" area. Not a PORSCHE shop as such, but has restored a 356 & 911. Well respected and beenaround a long time.http://www.wpvw.com.au/porsche_911.htmFor a PPI I'm sure he will suss out accident/rust etc & mechanical condition.I have NO affiliation & not personally used them, for the cost of a call, I'm sureyou will get a "feel" if he can help.CheersJohn
Aussie944S Posted 26April, 2013 Report Share Posted 26April, 2013 Haha I'm such a idiot... Wayne is good to go. My next door neighbor is rebuilding a splitty I've met Wayne to discus engine options for his resto, very knowledgeable bloke, he should be all over it when it comes to a PPI. michel Posted 27April, 2013 Report Share Posted 27April, 2013 Amanda is it the boxster you are getting a ppi on? ( great colour!) Whilst I agree wp is a hi po stalwart of the ac vw race and street scene. I would query their model specific knowledge on later model p stuff. My 2 cents. Perhaps call a number of noted porsche resto shops and ask them for a reference for a high quality body and mech shop. I do know that some will travel within reason and a cost to inspect a car, but this has its practical imits Btw don't over complicate the maintenance issue on pre 996 ac cars, you have heard enough good stories to know they are solid ( I know people who are using long hoods as daily drivers ) and like any cars including datto 1600's they can be home maintained with specialist work been done by...professionals. With the luck of having a mechanic brother, the usual service items including ball joint ,tie rods etc is straight forward if you have access to tools and are inclined Buy the car that ticks all the boxes head and HEART Look forward to finally seeing a thread started by you titled 'smiling while sliding backwards' Cheers michel
withers Posted 27April, 2013 Author Report Share Posted 27April, 2013 Hi Michel Yes working on it. The car seems good on paper, great service history and appears to have been cared for. I love the color. I'm working to a budget. This car is as far as it goes too. So I think I'm on the right track here. Fantastic looking car, handles, modern, has enough power to keep me happy and working AC haha. I drove one today with just 19,000 km on it but serviced only 3 times since new. Very stone chipped bonnet/bumper for $55k he dropped price to $50k but as soon as I saw that service history it put me off immediately. I loved the drive tho! I could totally live with a 987. Or a 996 if it was a manual! Shopping is fun
Pinarelloman Posted 27April, 2013 Report Share Posted 27April, 2013 I am about a 45min drive from the "Gong". I do all my own maintenance on mine, so have an idea what to look for. There is a guy at Penshurst who specialises in P cars. The Pit Exchange 9584 0990. No affiliation.
