Wheel spacers

Recommended Posts

I have the stock 7 inch Fuchs wheels on back of my SC and am keen to fill out the rear guards better. I reckon i could easily go out an inch or more. Does anybody have any opinions, suggestions, part #, place to purchase etc?

Cheers, Alex

CAUTION - If factory didn't specify spacers you may not be street legal/insured ?

I agree with this, pretty sure they are illegal if they were not an option for your car.

However you may find that they were an option on your car, or the rules from other 911's of your era may apply. I am pretty sure that 911 Turbos have at various times had wheel spacers fitted in order to fill out the guards. You may find that this makes it something you can legally fit to your car.

You will need to do your research on this.

If you decide to fit spacers make sure you fit the hub centric type, these bolt to your hub. The ones that simply slide over your studs can cause your studs to break. A one inch (25mm) expansion is a lot and you definitely must fit hub centric spacers!!

When I researched this 10 years ago H&R spacers were the ones to get. They are made in Germany and were a solid bit of kit used by a lot of race teams. H&R make 25 mm spacers for Porsche so if it is legal to fit spacers to your car you could get these.

I see you are in Canberra I know that Inline Suspension in Canberra can get you a set. When I bought mine I ended up getting them cheaper in Sydney so I drove down and picked up them up. Unfortunately I don't remember their details, other then they were in North Sydney and seemed to specialise in Ferraris.

I would also look on Ebay and the Net.

In the end though I changed my mind and never fitted them as the insurance and registration implications in the event of an accident scared me off :)

I couldn't help myself!  I won't implicate the lucky owner, but I'm totally jealous at his potential for massive dish!

Even the high offset on the wheels is crazy!

I was going to get spacers as well. 15mm all round would suit my wheels. H&R are the ones, but with the longer bolts they come up to $400 odd then delivery. I like my wheels but would sooner sell these and buy nice ones that fit and be legal. Insurance coverage is lost if unroadworthy.

Thanks for all your comments, except Tit, that wasn't helpful at all ;-)

It's no biggie if I don't get the spacers, I would only be doing it for aesthetic purposes, and I wanted to avoid buying wider wheels. I might have a chat to my mechanic and get his 2cents worth.
