Sunroof Lubricant

ANF

Recommended Posts

Phew. A technical question.

I was a little reluctant to click on this topic.

Didn't you see the word Sunroof?

@ANF don't put any grease on it. It will quickly end up on the roof lining. Don't ask me how I know. I light rub with one of those wax lube sticks will do it.

I know Stew, my thinking was that it would make a mess...

Pull it all apart (Rennlist has a write up) , get rid of all the ancient grease and just keep it clean with some RP7 from time to time. You won't be using it that much in Hobart :<)

i have and did use it to pull it apart, says to use the mix of white grease and oil... must be something better?

Whatever you use will attract dust which attracts moisture and more grunge. So I use as little as possible but more often than most.

Guys don't use wd40 or the like, it will gunk up, as well as breaking down any factory lubricants or grease. Silicone spray very small amounts in the right places. If you use too much wipe with a clean cloth. Used this for many years on all different sensitive applications, never failed.

directly from sunroof specialists as well.

After 35 or so years , the factory products have kinda failed B)

yep but if you send it to a specialist they will clean all the mechanism and tracks, then relube with silicone spray and charge you for the privilege.

Yes , I've heard about these "specialists". They have been to the how to use a socket and screwdriver school, and probably pulled apart and built a few devices in their youth! They go where angels fear to tread.
