Peter M Posted 2October, 2017 Report Share Posted 2October, 2017 (edited) Bruce's recent post on 8 and 16 cylinder engines made me think of Hans Mezger's 1972 Institute of Mechanical Engineers paper on "The Development of the Porsche Type 917 Car by Han Mezger, Dipl Ing".But I couldn't find it as a single pdf without having to join the Institute's library! However I did found it in amongst a whole lot of other 917 magazine articles from the time. For those that see the 917 as one of the coolest cars ever, I think it's worth downloading this pdf, even if just to read Mezger's paper:http://porschecarshistory.com/wp-content/old/biblio/17/Porsche-917.PDF Edited 2October, 2017 by Peter M ANF and IXLR8 1

stuartbrs Posted 20February, 2018 Report Share Posted 20February, 2018 For me, the 917 is just about my all time favorite racing car. Perfect looks, and one of the greatest sounding engines of all time... My other top race cars would be... JPS Lotus 97T BMW M3 Group A Lotus 49 Williams FW14 McLaren MP4/8 Ferrari P4 Ferrari 512 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Alfa Romeo GTA GT40 Audi Quattro (yes its a rally car) Porsche 908 And Dick Johnsons Greens Tuff Mustang Plenty of others but the 917 has to be king of the hill.. mostly because of Steve McQueen and LeMans! IXLR8 Posted 23May, 2021 Report Share Posted 23May, 2021 Thanks for posting. I used to have a copy of Hans Mezger's 1972 Institute of Mechanical Engineers paper on "The Development of the Porsche Type 917 Car by Han Mezger, Dipl Ing", but who knows where it is. I see you have it on page 44. I finally got to see the 917 and variations of it in 2015 and 2019 at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. It would be a real treat to see one on the track. In my case, YouTube is the next best thing. Museums

IXLR8 Posted 25May, 2021 Report Share Posted 25May, 2021 I don't know if this has been posted on this forum or if any of you speak or understand German, but here are a few interviews with Hans Mezger...
